Splatoon is a third-person shooter video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Wii U. It was released in Japan in May 2015, and worldwide in May 2015. The game centers around characters known as Inklings—beings that can transform between humanoid and squid forms, and hide or swim through colored ink sprayed on surfaces using gun or brush-based weaponry. Players control Inklings and use colored ink to attack opponents and clear goals.
Splatoon features several modes of play, including a single-player campaign, online multiplayer battles, and local multiplayer matches. The game also includes an extensive customization system allowing players to customize their weapons, clothing, hairstyles, etc. Splatoon has received critical acclaim from critics praising its graphics, controls, presentation and overall gameplay design.
