Persona 4 follows a group of high school students dealing with a mysterious TV channel dedicated to distorting and exaggerating the truth of who they are and their identities. The group must discover the identity of the TV channel’s host and defeat him to escape from the distorted reality.
The protagonist is Yu Narukami, a transfer student who moves to Inaba, a rural town in Japan. He quickly befriends Yosuke Hanamura, Chie Satonaka, and Yukiko Amagi, three other students attending his high school. Together they discover that whenever fog appears on rainy nights, people are thrown into an alternate world inside televisions. Inside this world exists shadow versions of themselves called “Personas” which they can use to fight against monsters called Shadows.
The group soon learns that these Shadows are related to a series of murders occurring in Inaba and that someone is using the alternate world as a means for committing them. As they investigate further, they uncover more about their Personas and their own hidden strengths while also attempting to stop whoever is behind the murders before anyone else falls victim to them.
