Melty Blood is a visual novel and fighting game series created by the dōjin circle French-Bread, which started with the release of Melty Blood Re-ACT (メルティブラッド リアクト) for the PC in 2002. The original story is set in August 1998 in a fictional Japanese city named Misaki Town. It follows Sion Eltnam Atlasia, an alchemist from the Atlas Institute, who has come to Misaki Town to investigate a series of mysterious incidents involving vampires.
The game combines elements from both visual novels and fighting games. The visual novel portion follows Sion as she investigates the mysterious incidents, while the fighting game portion allows players to choose from a variety of characters and battle against each other or computer opponents using various moves and combos. The series has spawned multiple sequels, ports, and adaptations into other media such as manga and anime.
