League of Legends (LoL) is an online video game for Microsoft Windows and macOS that was developed and published by Riot Games. It follows the multiplayer battle arena format popularized by Warcraft III's highly successful Defense of the Ancients (DOTA). Like DOTA, the game is viewed from a 3D isometric perspective.
In the game, players select from a number of available champions, each with specific, unique abilities and class. They use this champion to work with other champions to battle another player or players or computer-controlled AI champions while fighting a continuous stream of lesser enemies as they head towards their goal. The goal of either side is to reach to opposing team's base and destroy their Nexus. Defeating enemies earns the champion gold which can be used to buy items that increase stats. If a player's champion life reaches zero, it's revived in their base after some time.
To capitalize on its popularity, the video game has been expanded to other media including comic books, short stories, spin-off games, and an upcoming animated series with Netflix.
