Late Edo period in Japan. An alien race known as the Amanto has conquered Earth and is technologically light years ahead of humankind in the twenty-first century. Samurai in Japan were disarmed to maintain peace. Sakata Gintoki, one of them, now earns a living as a temporary worker and interacts with a variety of interesting people.
