Mitsuki Kouyama is a twelve-year-old girl with an incurable throat cancer that makes it difficult for her to speak or sing. Despite this, Mitsuki has dreams of becoming a professional singer one day. When two Shinigami (Death Gods) named Takuto and Meroko appear before her, they offer their assistance in helping Mitsuki fulfill her dream before the cancer takes its toll on her body. With the help of Takuto and Meroko, Mitsuki embarks on an incredible journey full of music, friendship, and courage as she strives to make her dreams come true. Along the way, she meets many people who will help shape the course of her life, including Eichi Sakurai—a young songwriter with whom she develops a strong bond—and Izumi Tsukioka—a famous singer whose career serves as an inspiration for Mitsuki’s own singing aspirations.
