The story of Akira Oono is presented in the anime adaptation of the same-named light novel by Kurone Kanzaki. Akira is a fully typical adult who goes about his business, takes care of his family, and occasionally serves as the Game Master for an online game in which he frequently plays as the Demon King. But one day, as he assumes his role as the Demon King once more, his routine working life abruptly comes to an end when he finds himself in a brand-new universe... as the exact Demon King whose role he had just practically assumed!
Akira quickly encounters a girl with a broken leg in this new realm, and being the kind man he is, he decides to take her along. The two now go through this fantastical world together. A person who not only carries the title Demon King but but has the power to live up to it is a popular target, thus genuine peace does not last with them for very long. The demon king is being pursued by explorers, purported saints, and entire states, so Akira and his crew always provide some excitement wherever they go.
