Black Clover is a Japanese manga series by Yuki Tabata. Centered around Asta, a young boy believed to not have magic powers, who was abandoned at a church along with fellow orphan, Yuno.
The two promise as children to compete against each other to be the next Wizard King, and as they grow up, differences between them emerge.
Yuno, a genius with magic, receives a four-leaf clover. However, Asta, believing he has no magic powers, trains hard with determination until his powers are revealed and he is given a five-leaf clover Grimoire - a black clover. He then does all he can to be King, competing against Yuno.
The manga was released in 2017 after being adapted into an original video animation by Xebec Zwei and an anime television series by Pierrot which premiered in Japan in October of the same year. It has been licensed for its English release in North America by Viz Media.
