I Decided to Live a Quiet Life in the Countryside, Banished from the Hero's Party relates the tale of Red, who did not always go by that name. He was once known as Gideon and was a knight of the Order of Bahamut as well as a member of the illustrious The Hero's Party, a group of heroes who gallantly repelled the Demon Lord's army and became somewhat of a sore spot for him as a result. He quickly became viewed as a burden and had to leave the groups in secret due to his abilities' poor improvement.
He currently leads a calm life in Zoltan, but it won't last forever: Red has little interest in working with Albert from his last squad when he arrives in town to hunt down an owl bear in the neighboring forest. But after having to venture into the woods to get a friend's life-saving medication, he unintentionally becomes a hero and receives his own pharmacy as a token of appreciation.
However, he is unable to get any genuine rest because of the young explorer Rit, who Red is friends with from his former knight days and who actually is a princess on the run. Together, they start to establish themselves as apothecaries, but Red must quickly come to terms with the possibility that his heroic days are still ahead of him.
